a new day

Random stuff always seems to happen to me. It could just be the way I look at the world; I tend to find the funny in things. I work as a substitute teacher in an elementary school and it's often the kids (and some times the other teachers) who provide me with amusement.

Recently, one of my colleagues left a message on my home phone, asking if I was available for the next week. When I called him back with the bad news, that I wasn't, I was absolutely sure that he had said he was going to the mountains. How odd, I thought, someone would take off for a week in the middle of the school year and wait until the Friday before to make arrangements for coverage. Still, I have subbed in his class and could understand the need for a vacation. Anyway, I am absolutely sure I wished him to have a good time. When I came in for work the following day, I learned that he had pneumonia, not mountains! I had to send him an email explaining - my flip sounding comment was the result of my misunderstanding (and that he mumbles, but who could tell him that?).
